Today was the first day of school, and Mrs. Sullivan's class was the first send grade class in the STEM lab. We had three objectives on the first day, and we accomplished them all! First, we discussed what STEM stands for, and what it means for our year together. Next, the class shared their favorite of the four subjects, and the subject they would like to learn about most. Overwhelmingly, the class was interested in engineering. They can't wait to find out what it is! For the very first challenge, the students were put into small groups and asked to move a hula hoop around in a full circle using only their index fingers. The purpose of this challenge was to practice working together as a team, and to discuss how our team worked well together, and we they needed to work on to be successful next time. The class worked together VERY well, and moved to using one finger, and holding the hoop above their heads to increase the challenge. Outstanding team work! Finally, the class helped create a list of expectations for each other as they work together on future projects.
