This week, the students worked in groups to create Lego walls that could not be knocked over with three "flicks" of my finger. As the students worked on this challenge, the students walked through the steps of the engineering design process.

This week, the students were introduced to the engineering design process. Class began with a story about an engineer named Rosie Revere. The students learned that inventions don't always work the first time, and it is important to learn from the mistakes. What a perfect way to introduce engineering! Next, the students watched a short video that models the engineering design process. Finally, we reviewed the steps of the design process, and discussed the engineering challenge for next week!
This week, the first and second graders were introduced to the scientific method. To better understand the steps, the students ordered the steps on a sentence strip, sang a song, and completed an experiment called magic milk. |
