The fifth and sixth grade students are preparing for an upcoming project. They will be designing and engineering recycled racers. Green engineers think about how to solve problems in a way that prevents harm to the environment. The students will be creating their own "Scrap Market" to collect items that may otherwise be discarded to create their racers. If you are able to send in any of the items to our "Scrap Market", we would greatly appreciate it!

The fifth and sixth grade students are continuing to work on their green screen movies. They have written their scripts with Mrs. Biggs, and we are recording this week. The next two weeks, the students will finish their editing, and finalize their videos. They will be shown December 11th for the 5/6 summative.
The students are beginning to design and create the igloo. It is a work in progress this week as students change the design as they feel it is necessary. This week the students will sign up for morning to come in and work on the igloo beginning December 1st. It is getting exciting! Thank you for all of the milk jug donations! This week, the students learned how to incorporate Chroma Key into their videos. Each group took photos and/or video in front of the green screen, chose a background picture from creativecommons.org, and inserted them into their videos. It was a very exciting process, and the students are making great process with their video editing skills. They are finishing up their learning video, and will begin filming their group projects in the upcoming week.
This week, the class was very lucky to have a very special guest speaker! Dr. Ralston from Arizona State University spoke to the class about chroma key (green screen technology), and using pictures and music in our videos in a respectful way. Not all pictures and music found on the web is free to use, the students were introduced to new websites to find royalty free music. They were also introduced to creativecommons.org to find pictures without restrictions. These websites will be very valuable as they make their videos, and in the future as respectful citizens.
