Last week, the students learned the science behind hot air balloons. We studied density, mass, volume, and molecules. For the next two weeks in learning lab, the students will create a poster that will highlight their learning. This week, the students used three different plastic trash bags, and a toaster. Their goal was to experiment with the hot air to figure out which bag should be used to create the final hot air balloon. As they tested the bags, each group had a timer, and sticky notes were used as weights. Through experimentation, the students worked to "fly" the bags for the longest amount of time. Next week, we will build and test the final models.
