The kindergarten students have become computer scientists this last quarter. They have created algorithms to move their Bee-Bots through a maze, used different types of visual languages to move robots, and have created programs with three or more commands. The student's computational skills have grown leaps and bounds this quarter!

Thursday, May 25th is the last day of school. Dismissal is at 12:00.To finish up our engineering unit, the students are working together to create mazes. They have identified the criteria, and started building. They cannot wait to solve theirs, and the other groups!
The kindergarten students have become engineers this quarter in the STEM Lab. As engineers, they have been solving storybook character's problems, by building something new, or improving it. They began by designing and creating a back scratcher for Big Smelly Bear. Next, they designed and created a bridge that was tall enough for the troll. Recently, they completed a chair for Peter. Currently, the students are working on a structure that Big Frog can fit into comfortably. Each challenge includes criteria that the groups must meet in order for the final prototype to be STEMtastic. What a quarter it has been!
Over the next few weeks, the kindergarten students are becoming scientists. They are observing the world around them, asking questions, conducting experiments, and predicting their outcomes. Right now we have three experiments happening in the lab. First, the students are wondering where the best place is to germinate lima beans. In the dark, in the cold, in the sunlight, or indirect sunlight? Next, they are wondering if Indian Corn will germinate if they soak it in water. Finally, what solids will dissolve? All of these questions have led the students to design and conduct experiments, and they are busy observing the results each week. It is very exciting to see what will happen!
Over the next few weeks, the students will take a closer look at seeds. The students will be investigating the Lima Bean, and conducting experiments. Is a bean a seed, what is inside of the seed, will they germinate in the dark, in the cold, in indirect sunlight? These are a few of the questions the students will be investigating in the lab.
