This week, the classes are being introduced to the scientific method. To learn about this process, the students went through the steps as they completed a science experiment. The question that led the experiment was, "Can yeast cause a chemical reaction?" Time was a factor for our class, so the class did not research the question, but learned that yeast is a microscopic fungus. As the experiment was performed, the students practiced using the materials safely, and meeting their expectations for each other as they worked as teams. Finally, the class discussed the results, and compared them to their hypothesis. Student learned that the yeast and the hydrogen peroxide caused an exothermic reaction! Heat was release as energy, and they were amazed!
